High Tea is available at Old Gippstown from 29th April

A High Tea will take place at Old Gippstown on 29th April at 2.30pm. The concept is for people to come along and experience the activity and socialise in a relaxed environment.

The Manager, Michael Fozard, extend an invitation to those who want to share in the ambiance of an old English High Tea amongst the ferns, palms and old wares. There will be assorted savouries, sweet and fresh fruit with chocolates on tiered plates, as well as scones with jam and cream. An assortment of black teas, organic herbal teas and fruit infused teas will be available. Also available will be a choice of coffees, and iced tea or iced chocolate; a great experience for all of those discerning gastronomes.

Bookings before the day are essential for attendance, as the inaugural event; there will be a complimentary glass of champagne, served to each guest. A “walk and talk” of the Park will also be available to those attending.

Are you interested in helping Kids to enjoy learning about the past?

Old Gippstown’s School Education Program is growing in popularity.

We have now reached a point that we are in need of more volunteers to help us in running this activity.

Summary of School Program

In summary, we cater for Primary School children from Prep to Grade 6. The concept is to show children what it was like years ago, 50 to 100 years in the past. Our approach is to undertake activities that depict life such as school, shopping, domestic choirs, buildings, crafts, games, music, etc.

Children are divided into small groups (approx group size of 15) and then rotated around the activities. The volunteer will talk, relate and if able, act out the stories of past life in the particular area (School, Domestic Choir, etc)

To be suitable for this volunteering role you will have the following traits:

• Easily Relate to Children
• Be a proficient Story-teller
• Be a good listener
• Be tolerant and calm-mannered
• Commit to 4 hours on any given day (Days are determined by you)
• Be happy to apply for a Working with Childrens Permit (paid by Old Gippstown)

Moe Music Festival is Back!

Due to increasing popularity, the Moe Music Festival has developed into a two-day event and will be held over the weekend or 5 and 6 May 2012.

In addition to Jazz, Blues, Folk and Country music featured in previous festivals, a ‘Brass Bonanza’ will be held on the Saturday showcasing local and visiting brass bands. Another addition to the festival will be a Gala Dance on Saturday night where music lovers of all persuasions can get together to dance the night away.

19 years Old, The Moe Music Festival is getting bigger!

After 19 years of running a successful Jazz Festival in Moe, the Moe Jazz Festival Committee developed partnerships with Old Gippstown, the
Gippsland Rhythm and Blues Club, the Gippsland Acoustic Music Club and the Gippsland Country music Club to launch the Moe Music Festival. After two very successful festivals in 2010 and 2011, the Gippsland Brass Band Group has joined the partnership adding Brass Band music to the mix.

The Moe Traders Association has also ramped up their support for the Moe Music Festival by holding a talent quest for young people the week before as part of a community celebration in Moe. Finalists from the talent quest will perform on stage at the music festival on the Sunday to promote young local talent.

The festival will commence on Saturday 5 May at 10.00 am with the ‘Brass Bonanza’ at Old Gippsland through to 5.00 pm. The Gala Dance will be held at the Moe RSL on Saturday night from 8.00 pm featuring the Alan Clark Gippsland Swing Combo. On Sunday it will be off to Old Gippstown again for an extravaganza of Jazz, Blues, Folk and Country music in various venues throughout the park.

Session tickets will be available at all venues along with discount passes for combinations of events.

Old Gippstown again had a very successful Christmas Lunch on Christmas Day – with over 100 people in attendance.

The day was supported by a number of organisations and individuals that donated food and or money.  This support allowed us to purchase gifts for everyone that came to the lunch.

This year we again had amazing support from some 20 volunteers.  A group of six people came in on Saturday the 24^th to help in preparing vegetable and meat for the lunch.  Then on Sunday the 25^th we had volunteers arriving at 9am to set tables and get the area ready.

A bus was organised and commenced to pick up people from as far away as Callignee and then to Yarragon.

By 1pm everyone was seated and ready for a great meal.  The meal included turkey, ham, chicken and a range of vegetables.  Dessert was plum pudding and fruit salad.  Live music was also provided by volunteers and the group enjoyed a session of carols and other music.  We were also able to provide a number of fresh produce packages for people to take home.

Everyone that was picked up was then returned home.

From all reports received everyone enjoyed the lunch and the social interaction.

Old Gippstown is at fever pitch with people attending its Saturday market looking for gold nuggets.

The manager, Michael Fozard, is inviting people to come along to the Saturday Markets at Old Gippstown and search for gold nuggets that have been located within the Park boundaries. Old Gippstown markets take place on the third Saturday of each month. The gold promotion will be for the next four markets, (Nov, Dec, Jan and Feb).

Each person attending will be given a map to place their location on. The nearest to the location at the end of the promotion will win. There are FIVE gold prizes available to be won.

Come along and be part of the Gold Rush, get the feeling of “Gold Fever”.

Old Gippstown will be having its own gold rush, reminiscent of the Walhalla gold rush time.

Each person attending the Saturday markets; on the 3rd Saturday of the month, will receive a free entry form to locate the gold nuggets around the grounds of the Park.

An entry form will be handed to a person at the entry to the market. This form will be a map with
a grid, it is up to you to complete it with your detail, location of the nugget and place it in the entry box.

There are two main nuggets valued at $80.00 each and 4 smaller vials of gold to be won.

This promotion is for the Nov, Dec, Jan and Feb markets. At the end of the February market the
closest to the location will be awarded the nuggets.

You also have room to explain more precisely your chosen location.
