School Programs

Old Gippstown, Gippsland's Heritage Park now has a lot more to offer educational visits by students and teachers. Due to its new and improved School's Program, we are able to cater for students of all levels, ranging from pre-school, primary, right through to high school.

As you may know, the Park provides the opportunity for students to take a step back in time to experience the lifestyle of an early rural town, dated around the early 1900's. The township consists of 30 authentic buildings and vintage farm equipment. The township also boasts a large collection of horse drawn vehicles and vintage cars, which is one of Australia's best.

The Park is bursting with resourceful and obtainable information that covers a range of subject areas. These include:

Early Gippsland explorers and Gippsland history.
A way of life as experienced by the variety of townfolk, both young and old.
The development of architecture from 1850 to 1930. Several buildings are classified by the National Trust.
Transport development of horse drawn vehicles through to the mechanical era.
School life in that period with the availability of the school for use. We also make available nib pens and ink to reinforce the authenticity, allowing students to experience handwriting techniques of the time.
The comparison of entertainment by showing silent films of the era, eg. Charlie Chaplin, etc. in our Tynong Theatre.
Development of printing from the late 1800's to the computer age.
Farming activities that have contributed to the development of Gippsland
Lifestyle and the carrying out of domestic tasks including food preparation

Students should be encouraged to dress in costume for the day to add to the atmosphere! We are also able to include a lunch component covering traditional Australian foods. If required we can provide BBQ facilities and undercover areas for lunch. Excursions can also be supplemented by visits to the other areas of the Latrobe Valley, such as, the power stations. The admission price per student , this includes all project materials, as well as a ride on the vintage fire truck. Supervising and support staff are admitted free of charge. We are able to tailor a program to meet you needs and curriculum guide lines and we look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
